Gustavian Commode

Another piece from our latest shipment from Sweden is a single matt-black Gustavian commode. Three plain drawers have no detail aside from the beaded Regency ring handles and matching beaded Escutcheons, allowing the exquisite arched, almost gothic carving above the top drawers to take centre stage. Fine Gustavian tapered legs raise this chest off the ground, adding a lightness to the otherwise solid structure, and the antique black original finish has been cut back to emphasize the carving and medullary ray formations on each drawer.
