French Demijohn Bottles
NZ$450
each
Just in from Northern France, these lovely demijohn wine bottles have made it across the globe without a single break. Used for fermenting wine and placed in wine baskets for transport, they all vary in shade from celadon green to bottle green.
They came about when Queen Joanne I of Naples, La Rene Jeanne, came to tour a glassblower's hot shop - as the story goes, he was so nervous that he over-inflated the glass and these giant bottles appeared. So admired were the bottles that they were named the Dame Jeanne or demijohn.
