Pair of Directoire Fauteuils

Please enquire for price

Louis XV is wonderfully decorative, while Louis XVI is more restrained, and then we have the Directoire period during the latter part of the French Revolution. Despite its short tenure oin furniture design, it still reigns supreme as a moment when the French “nailed it”.

The legs are turned but not completely fluted, aside from a small ribbing at the top and bottom. The upholstery line is raised and painted a darker shade, and the original stitched horsehair upholstery is perfectly illustrated here.

This pair of chairs predates 1820 and is absolutely the perfect proportion.

There are two pairs available. We have upholstered one pair in a plain linen as shown - but get with Katrina and Levi to have the other pair upholstered in something even better!
