Arbalète-Fronted Commode
NZ$12,500
If we were doing one this month, this iconic Gustavian commode would be the cover shot for a new Gustavian catalogue.
Fitted with 18th-century period handles and escutcheons.
Gustav the IV returned to Sweden from the court of Louis XVI and took French cabinet makers with him.
This oak commode is quite special, pine was more commonly used in Scandinavia.
Arbalète is French for "bow and arrow" - the front of this dresser is in the manner of a bow.
