Louis XIV Commode

This is THE piece from my last buying trip. It has been sitting for several years in the house of a dealer we visit in Burgundy. Last Christmas he finally relented and sold it to us.

A period chest of drawers or commode made of walnut and dating from the Louis XlV period. The commode's front is shaped (we call it serpentine), but the French call say arbalète (in the manner of a bow and arrow).

Perfect proportion, colour and patina, plus great age. Almost certainly from a grand chateau.

It has had some restoration work done here in New Zealand by an outstanding restorer.
