Custom-made Louis Philippe Style Mirrors

We make stunning mirrors in the Louis Philippe style using the same process that was used in the 19th century i.e.

6 - 9 coats of gesso (white) sanded back

2 coats of yellow bole (a type of clay)

2 coats of red bole

3 - 4 coats of black bole, sanded very finely.

Gilded with pure silver, pure gold (or a metal leaf).

Antiqued with clear shellac and aniline dyes.

You can specify the size of moulded frame, which can also have beading on the internal edge, if desired. We have various mouldings for use, depending on the size of the mirror.
