Painted Cupboard

Swedish 18th-century two door cupboard with bracket feet.

These are the cupboard's original colours - there is a long story about the red pigment which the Swedish used. The deep red is called Falun red, which originated from the copper mines. It tends to be a long-lasting protector of wood.

The barns in Sweden are also this red colour, including the one where I found this cupboard.

Excellent bracketed feet support the cupboard's doors with their fielded panelling, and the piece's lovely blue/grey top.

Wonderful!
