Large Bombe Commode

This is the one! When you go shopping in France most of the bombe commodes are ply lined, which dates them as early 20th century pieces. The rest have solid oak drawer linings, indicating 19th century manufacturing.

Once in 25 years you find an 18th century commode - and there's the difference! The drawer liners are quarter sawn, left to right cut oak, dating the piece as pre-1820.

The bombe on the commode's ends are just perfect, with an understated curve.

The commode's book-matched quartered kingwood front is truly striking with its boxwood framing, and the two drawers have thumbnail moulding, giving the 'depth of field', which adds to the very classy presence of this bombe commode.

The commode's top is double thickness Italian marble.
